This performance was at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe located downtown.

Poetry slams are more of an underground variable of media.

This particular piece focuses on ignorance as well as self acceptance.

The audio isn’t the best, but I really liked the message.

Let’s see some feedback! 🙂

I enjoyed this poetry performance. I agreed with the artist when he stated” Shame on the media for only respecting people when they die”. The media is constantly destroying the lives of celebrities by posting personal photos and information about them and their family members. They are constantly in the spotlight under a magnify glass being ridiculed for every thing they do. If they make a mistake/ bad decision they will have to live with that decision forever. Because, the media will be a constant reminder, and make sure that they do not forget what they have done.

This made me think of the book Fahrenheit 451. A shame that people were so ignorant and brainwashed. That your neighbor would rather destroy your life than gain knowledge and live in fear. Shame that Beatty knew the truth but choose to ignore it but rather take the lives of others.
